Goodbye 2010
The first part of this year was my happy eighth semester. Seventh semester wasn’t a good time for me. In fact, I hated coming to college. Little did I expect to feel the opposite in the eighth semester. I was happy, if not always, at least most of the time. If I wasn’t happy, there was just one reason, just ONE. I had a few surprises during the course of the semester. Some of which were good, others were complicated!
End of a beautiful part of my life, college. Peak of surprises! Wo-ow! Some made me feel happy while some made me feel dumb. My friendship with a few doubled, tripled and quadrupled. I could identify my true friends who would stay by me, all the time. Some of them are in India, very few in the US, and I have 3 to 4 new ones in the list.
My biggest surprise of the year, I am in the US! Six years ago I wasn’t sure if I would be an engineer. And I’m pursuing my Masters degree now! I was doubtful about moving to the US for my Masters degree. If not for a few of my friends, I wouldn’t have been here now.
This surprise syndrome continued in the second half of the year too. Surprisingly, I talk to people in India more than I do to those in the country I live in. I cook pretty well! I am friends with someone I din think I would be friends with. I can stay without sleep for 2 days. I can sleep till 1:30 pm. Lot of self-realization surprises.
Right now, I want 2011 to be filled with surprises too! Sweet surprises though ;)

I think...
Thinking brings in confusion rather than clarity, trust me! Sometimes, it is better that our actions are impulsive. Impulsive, I am one, most of the times. When I'm not one, I'll be this confused oh-my-god character who worries too much.
Right now, I'm in non-impulsive mode. Oh-my-God! :'( I wish decisions had an undo button. Life would have been just Awesome! Sometimes small decisions change your life so much that you can never get back although you want to badly! I hate this! Grrr...
Now I'm wondering if I should post this. And the decision will be made, in a minute. And tada!!! You know my decision ;)
P.S. : I can undo this one! :P

I am happy
I was very skeptical about my life here. Far away from my comfort zone. But here I'm, in a new family, where people express their love for me not the way the family I left back in India used to. The way I was brought up is slightly different from most children. My mom didn't run around the house carrying a plate of food to feed me when I had to go to school. My dad didn't appreciate me even when all my friends' parents did. And I don't feel bad. That is the only reason why I don't miss my parents as most people do. I'm thankful to them, to have brought me up as an independent girl. But here, things are very different. 11:00 pm, I had my project submission in an hour and I had no time to eat. One roomie prepares the food and one roomie feeds me (trust me, my eyes turned moist then). I feel lucky to have them as my room-mates. One roomie never hesitates to help us. She sees to that nothing stops us from studying or working on our projects. Right from preparing dinner to buying groceries, she does it all. If not for her, I would've starved for days here or would've lived on sub-s. Home made food, filled with love and affection, is what keeps me going!
Another roomie, this blog post is solely because of her. I just love her. She acts as my mother when she scolds me for exactly the same things that my mom would. Striking resemblance! She acts as my sister when she patiently listens to me and advices me. She is my friend when she has to put up with all my hyper-active-mood screams and crazy talks. She is my baby sister when she pleads for 10 more minutes of sleep or gets yelled at for being the lazy kid that she is. If there is one thing that I think is the best decision I have made about this new phase in my life, it is the decision to stay with her. I wouldn't have had the peace of mind I have now, wouldn't have enjoyed the life here, wouldn't have felt totally un-homesick, if not for her. I'm lucky to have her in my life. I'm totally happy :) :) :)

Love you girlie! :)
I miss talking to her. I miss her i-had-awesome-food sessions, her shopping reports. I miss phone-learning and phone-teaching. I miss her. I know my phone conversations with her is gonna go down in the future, I know. But I know that she'll understand. I know that she is missing me too. We know that is not how much we talk to each other that matters. Even if we don't talk to each other for months, or worse, years, we still know that we're thinking of each other every now and then.
She is my sunshine! :)

Heaven on Earth :)
I was watching a song from the movie ‘Varanam ayiram’. I heard a voice telling me “Here is your topic for the next article!”. The movie? I have read millions of reviews and almost every still from the movie has been well scrutinized. Even if I try writing a review it would have the points that have already been published by someone – plagiarism!!! And its a bit TOO late to write on that movie.
Surya? Well, hmm…un… mmm….
Harris jeyaraj? I don’t know much about him except for the much hyped damaal dumeel with the director. Then what is it that I have to write about? The song was well pictured in a park. I know that place! Anna nagar tower park! And that’s the topic that I have to start with. Anna nagar! Heaven on earth :)
So what’s special about this place? You may ask. Anna nagar is a heaven for everyone. Be it a septuagenarian or a toddler, an industrialist or a homemaker, a politician or a journalist, everyone loves to stay here. The reason is simple : name your needs, and you have it here.
Maybe this place isn’t really in the heart of the city. Maybe it isn’t considered a part of the city at all (some of my friends when invited to my house say –“endha OORUla irukku un veedu?”) So what? Anna nagar is a city in itself. The old kutcheri loving grandpa goes to the concerts at the iyyappan koil. The orthodox grandma loves the numerous temples here. The workaholic father has his office at a well accessible place. The shopaholic mother has literally every top brand’s branch here – clothes, watches, cosmetics, groceries, cookware, crockery,….. The teen aged girl frequents the cozy coffee pubs and the parlours. The young boy just can’t miss his Sunday brunch at the restaurants (Chinese? Indian? Multi-cuisine? Chettinad? Kerala? Or just the roadside dhabbas? Name it…)
This is the reason I’m still here. Although the TWO hour roller-coaster ride to my college tires me like hell, I don mind the looooong travel. Where else do you find commercial establishments and residential complexes at a single place? The avenue trees on the WIDE roads (which is not very common in the CITY), the quiet and calm residential areas, diverse people, schools, branches of every coaching centre, restaurants, hah….. these reasons clearly quash the disadvantages of being here.
Anna nagar ROCKS!!! :)
